Not a retelling of the epic, and not a commentary on everything in it — just one thread, drawn out carefully: what the Mānasa itself says about the Guru, in the Mānasa's own words.

The Guru, before Rāma Himself
स्वयं राम से भी पहले — गुरु
Gosvāmī Tulsīdāsa did not begin the Rāmacaritamānasa with "Rāma." He begins with Sarasvatī and Gaṇeśa. Then Bhavānī and Śiva. And already, in the third verse — the Guru.
गोस्वामी तुलसीदास जी ने श्रीरामचरितमानस का आरम्भ 'राम' से नहीं किया। पहले सरस्वती और गणेश जी, फिर भवानी और शंकर जी — और तीसरे ही श्लोक में गुरु का वर्णन आता है।

How the Book Is Built

Seven kāṇḍas, one journey
सातों काण्ड, एक यात्रा
Scattered across all seven kāṇḍas of the Mānasa are the verses where Tulsīdāsa speaks of the Guru. This book gathers them in sequence — and alongside each verse, the very story in which it was spoken.
मानस के सातों काण्डों में बिखरे वे सभी वचन, जिनमें तुलसीदास जी गुरु के विषय में कुछ कहते हैं, इस पुस्तक में एक क्रम में संकलित किए गए हैं। प्रत्येक वचन के साथ वह कथा भी दी गई है, जिसके बीच वह कहा गया था।
The result is a single, sequential journey of Guru-centred thought — drawn out from across the whole epic.
इससे मानस में गुरु-विषयक विचारों की एक क्रमबद्ध यात्रा सामने आती है।

महामोह तम पुंज जासु बचन रबि कर निकर॥
"I worship the lotus feet of the Guru — an ocean of grace, the very form of Hari in human shape — whose every word is a multitude of sun-rays, scattering the mass of darkness that is great delusion."
अर्थात् — गुरु के चरण-कमलों की वन्दना, जो कृपा के सागर और मनुष्य रूप में साक्षात् हरि हैं; जिनके वचन, महामोह के सघन अंधकार को दूर करने वाली सूर्य-किरणों के समान हैं।

The book closes with a code of forty-eight duties — twelve for each of today's teacher, learner, parent, and institution — every duty traced back to the verse it rises from.
